At Manual Physical Therapy & Concierge Services, we love to help people in their 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s get back to living the life they deserve. This means a life free from pain pills, injections, or even surgeries – a life where you can enjoy all of the things you love, without the fear of pain holding you back.

When you have been suffering from chronic pain in your knee, lower back, neck, shoulders, hip, or foot, we know it’s tempting to leave it alone and hope it will simply “go away on its own” with time and rest, that you will wake up someday, and like “magic”, the pain will be gone. But that’s usually not the case. More often, the pain ends up worse, even “spreading” to other joints.

We also know that, with chronic pain, it becomes routine to visit your doctor to get injections or pain pills. You might feel better, and the pain may go away, but neither of these are good for your health in the long term. They mask the pain, but do nothing to fix what’s actually causing it.

Maybe you are left feeling confused, even skeptical, because you have sought treatment from other healthcare professionals (acupuncture, chiropractic or physical therapy) in the past, but nothing they did or said seemed to help.

Can You Relate?

If that sounds like you, you are not alone. At Manual Physical Therapy & Concierge Services, we hear this all the time. In fact, people who come to see us have often:

  • Thought the pain would go away on its own – but it didn’t.
  • Paid several visits to the doctor, who initially told them to “rest” and “take some pain pills,” only to prescribe MORE rest and an even stronger dose of pain pills at the next visit.
  • Gone to a “traditional” physical therapist who hands them a sheet of generic exercises, which did nothing to ease the pain or even made it worse.
  • Sought chiropractic care for years with no lasting pain relief.
  • Tried YouTube exercises, foam rolling, hot tubs, massage, exercise with personal trainer, Yoga/Pilates without finding relief.
  • Tried to exercise or work through the pain, which only made matters worse.
  • Had a surgery or two that failed to relieve the pain, leading the doctor to recommend yet another surgery.
  • Thought it would be a good idea to rest until the pain went away, but all that did was make the area even more stiff and tight.
  • Been told by a friend or family member that everyone gets aches and pains as they get older, so they have to “learn to live with it.”

Any of Those Sound Familiar?

If any of these have happened to you, we invite you to book a call with one of our physical therapists to find out what we can do to help you.

The fact that you have tried any, or all, of these things already, like many people we see, is actually a GOOD THING! Because when you know what doesn’t work, you are closer to finding the solution that does!

Click the link below to book a call with us if you would like to get some solid answers over the phone. The phone call is complimentary, and there is no obligation to book any appointments with us after the call is over. So what do you have to lose?

Our goal is to help you gain some clarity so that you can make the right decision about the next steps you should take towards long-lasting relief for your chronic pain.

Joann

A lot of physical therapists hesitate to specialize in chronic pain because it is particularly challenging to analyze and treat. In fact, most will tell you right at the beginning that chronic pain will never subside.

My job, however, is to prove them wrong. For 30 years I have treated people who have suffered years of pain.

I opened this clinic after personally struggling with chronic pain in both of my shoulders. I woke up one day with twinges of pain, despite not having any history of physical trauma. This experience is common when you reach the age of 40 or 50. Two years after the pain began, I realized that I had been suffering for so long that I had lost nearly all mobility in my shoulders. It was painful to drive and work, and I considered leaving my job for good due to the severity of the discomfort. I couldn’t even wash my hair without bending my head down to avoid lifting my arms!

Even as a physical therapist, instead of addressing the pain immediately, I allowed the pain to worsen, which is exactly what I told all my patients not to do.

That was when I understood that pain alone won’t convince people to seek help. We will usually learn to tolerate or ignore it. But there comes a time when the pain becomes so unbearable that we have no choice but to give up the activities we love. It is only then that we decide the problem is serious enough to seek treatment for it. By that time, multiple dysfunctions throughout the body have already developed due to compensatory habits we form to avoid the pain. This means that treating the painful area alone is no longer enough to solve the problem.

Fortunately for me, I am a PT. So, I thought, “No big deal, I can do this myself.” I was so confident that I could solve my problem but was disappointed to find that I could only feel about 75% better no matter what I tried. I had only 2 choices left: Go to a doctor who would order me an MRI or figure it out myself by going back to the basic foundation of physical therapy – kinesiology, the study of body movements, performance, and function by applying the sciences of body mechanics, anatomy, physiology, psychology, and neuroscience.

I chose the latter, and it was the best decision I ever made. I underwent a full recovery, and in the process, I developed a better and deeper understanding of how to assess and treat chronic pain. The focus of treatment isn’t simply the area that hurts. Instead, the course of treatment is defined by the root cause of that discomfort, which is often located in different parts of the body. Chronic pain treatment is special. The pain has been tolerated for so long that the body must be treated as a whole for any therapy to have a beneficial, lasting impact. That is why I am confident that I can help those suffering from years and years of chronic pain, even when nothing seems to work – confident enough to open up my own practice in July of 2016.

From the very beginning I have focused on getting results and transforming the lives of people who have lost all hope in their recovery. Almost entirely through word of mouth, our practice has grown so much that there are now three of us specialists trained in manual therapy here at our clinic. Each of us takes pride in the fact that unlike other treatments, manual therapy is all about consistent, personalized, one-on- one, and precise treatment. Our philosophy has always been and will always be “People first, Patient second,” as we continue welcoming new people into our family and change their lives for the better.

  • Avoid painkillers or injections so you’re not always reaching in the cupboard for medicine to ease the pain and sleep better whenever it strikes, knowing they are not good for your long-term health anyway and don’t actually do anything to fix the root cause.
  • Avoid dangerous surgery we will help you get to the root cause of what’s going on, so you don’t have to risk surgery that might not even work.
  • Find out what’s wrongwe will help give you peace of mind that your problem CAN be “corrected,” so you don’t have to live in pain for the rest of your life.
  • Improve your quality of life - so you can enjoy more quality, pain-free time with family and friends and finally get a good night’s sleep without tossing and turning just to find that one position that feels right.

Basically, we love helping people get back to living life free from the suffering caused by chronic pain.

Who Is This NOT For?

  • People who expect a magic pill OR a quick fix to their pain.
  • People who are only looking for generic exercises or YouTube videos and aren’t open to REAL, long-lasting solutions to put an end to their pain.
  • People who do not prioritize pain relief.
  • People who believe pain relief is impossible.

“I would go to bed at night and I would just stand at the side of my bed and say, now, how am I going to get in there? I would sit down on the end of the bed and hurtfully pull my legs into the bed. And so that has been cured completely. I feel like now that was one important thing.”
